The Story
The "Smooth" Operator
It all started with a glass of rosé sent to Vani’s table. While Vani froze in shy silence, her friend played wingman and raised the toast. When Suraj finally walked over, he spent five minutes over-pronouncing his name as 'Suraaaaj' (assuming Vani was an ABCD). Five repetitions later, she simply said, 'Oh, Suraj!'—and the numbers were exchanged.
The 10-Month "Maybe"
Suraj spent the next six months asking Vani out; Vani spent those months perfecting the 'polite avoid.' It took ten months total before she finally agreed to dinner. By the end of the night, the roles reversed: Suraj was in tears of joy (aided by a few glasses of wine), while Vani was the one making sure he got home in one piece.
The Proposal (and the Vacuum)
Three months in, Suraj knew. He proposed at our favorite hangout spot right under our house—the place where we’ve done all our laughing and 'passionate debating.' It was the easiest 'Yes!' ever. Then COVID hit, and Suraj heroically moved into Vani’s sister's house, officially earning the title of Household Vacuuming Specialist.
The Traveling Ring
Our relationship has a pattern: in the heat of an argument, Vani tries to return the ring. Suraj, the eternal romantic, simply drops back down on one knee to put it back on. He has now proposed in five different states. Vani is just wondering if he’s trying to hit all 50 before the wedding!
The Final Boss: The Parents
Telling the parents was the real hurdle. After a three-hour marathon call of tears and convincing, Vani’s dad asked, 'Why him?' Her answer: 'Because he started from zero just like you did, and he loves me.' He was sold. Suraj’s family took three years of 'negotiations,' but once they met Vani, they realized she was the one. Now, they call her for everything!
Third Time's the Charm
We were originally set to say 'I do' in November 2024, but the visa office had other plans. Two years and a lot of patience later, we are finally tying the knot on May 10th. We can’t wait to celebrate this long-awaited day with all of you.
See you in May!
